Dear Land Mobile Professional:
Idylltek was founded in 2005 by Malcolm Oakes serving as chief engineer and president. The first product was the RP-176 Repeater Tone Panel. The RP-176 brings a long list of firsts including LCD, most tones/codes and smallest repeater panel ever offered. The product has been well received.. especially overseas where conventional repeaters are still the norm. At this writing there have been zero failures and no DOA's. Upon completing the RP-176 I began the LT8R project. I've always wondered why no one set aside the networked concept and instead made samll/inexpensive multi-channel LTR panels. So thats what i set out to do. After researching I found that the vast majority of LTR systems are 4 and 5 channels. Likely better than 95% of LTR controllers go into systems of 8 or fewer channels. So I settled on 8 channels. The product took two years of part time to develop and will have its formal debut at the 2008 IWCE show in Las Vegas.
Many of you know me from my 19 years as owner, president and chief engineer at CSI. I founded CSI in 1982. I designed all those excellent interconnects and tone panels that put CSI on the map. The 80's and 90's were fun times in two-way. I sold CSI in 2001 to follow other pursuits which eventually led to founding Idylltek. (Please, I had nothing to do with CSI designs after 2001)
Prior to CSI, I was a staff engineer at Hughes Aircraft Co in Culver City, CA some 17 years. I designed a lot interesting things there and it was fun for a long time. Some highlights include.. both cockpit displays in the A6E Intruder, Scan Converter in the B52, FLIR situation displays in the P3, OV-10 and many others. And in later years high speed digital processing in support of Hughes advanced FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) systems. As I went up the ladder the fun went down the ladder.
And it all began with ham radio at age 12. Have had the same callsign (K6UAW) since then.
I welcome your suggestions with respect to features, new products or how we operate the company. Call me anytime for chat.
I'm at your service.
Malcolm Oakes
